LAUNCHING THE AFRICAN CHILDREN OF PEACE CLUBS
(An Article in A.P.P.L.I. December Newsletter)

The Nigeria Chapter of A.P.P.L.I. blazed yet another trail when it launched three clubs
of African Children of Peace at a row, successively, in the Lagos area.  In the same
way as it pioneered the launching of the KAIROS Peace Club at FUTA on December 6,
2003, and the OOU KAIROS Peace Club on September 8, 2004, A.P.P.L.I. Nigeria
launched African Children of Peace Clubs, at the Pentecostal Children School,
Dopemu, and at the Single Gate Nursery and Primary, School, Akowonjo, on 16th and
17th December, respectively, and at the Oasis Children School on 21st December
2004.

The launching of these clubs was accompanied by street rallies.  Because the
launching and rallies coincided with the Christmas and End-of-Year parties of the
respective schools, Santa Claus was available to give the children exotic gifts.  Over
200 children with their parents and teachers participated at the launching and rallies.
As was the usual practice, A.P.P.L.I. provided peace T-shirts for each participating
child, gave the children and their teachers gifts through the Father Christmas.  The
theme of the launching and rallies was “Catch Them Young” and the topic discussed
was “Children of Peace”, a terminology coined from Dr. J. R. Burkholder’s book of the
same title.  The overall goal is to transform the African Child of Conflict to a Child of
Peace instead of a Child of Violence.

transformation of African Children
of Conflict to African Children of Peace.
